Porch Door Restoration Nearing Completion

As the season rapidly approaches, we thought it would be a good time to update the members and pass along some exciting news that the project to restore the porch doors is nearing completion!

Why This Project Matters

We would also like to take a moment to give our members a sense of the difficult work involved with this restoration and to highlight just how important the project was to maintaining our historic building.

The Condition We Faced

By the end of last season, it was clear that the doors were in extremely poor condition. Aside from the obvious rail and stile damage, some of the doors were warped as much as 3/4”.

In addition:

  • All of the door jambs were damaged (most likely from re-hinging over the years) and beyond repair
  • All of the door sills were severely worn and needed replacement by Ipe wood

Craftsmanship & Care

We have posted photos below that will give you an idea of the delicate and painstaking work that was done.

It can be a great challenge to maintain the historical integrity of our clubhouse while at the same time making sure the building meets the needs of our thriving and active membership. I think it is safe to say that this project accomplished both.

Fundraising Progress

When the LHYC Historical Foundation decided to fund this project, we set a fundraising goal of $75,000 based on the cost estimates provided to us.

Thanks to the generosity of our members, to date we have received donations of $65,250 towards this goal.

As the final bills for this work come due, we ask you to consider making a donation to the LHYCHF to help us meet our goal and fully fund this important work.
